SEO, known as search engine optimisation is vital for any small businesses trading online as it will drive relevant traffic to your website. As an SEO agency we wanted to guide you and give some tips and advice on how to do this yourself. It is a natural form of online marketing and doesn’t cost anything, as Google will naturally serve the website or the landing page that’s the most relevant to the user's search query on the search results page. In this blog, we have given you some useful SEO tips you can carry out on your website to help generate the organic traffic you want for your business.

  1. Keyword research. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes what keywords would they be searching for on Google. The words you may search for aren't necessarily the same as your customers. The Google keyword planning tool is free and great to use to search for keywords and the potential traffic for those keywords.
  2. Research your competitors. Look at your competitors current blogs, what are they writing, is it interesting? How many words, look at their on-page content for each page. Also are they blogging about current topics that are in the news, if they are you should be too.
  3. Choose a page on your website you want to optimise. Look at your current landing pages on your website, is one bringing in less traffic than the other? Then you have the potential to expand on this and make it better and drive more traffic.
  4. Create the content for that page. Once you have the keywords you want to target for that page you can start writing the content. It needs to be natural and flows in a way that makes it easy to read. It should read like music and most importantly Google needs to understand what that page is about. 
  5. Monthly blogging. Writing blogs monthly is a great way of keeping your website fresh with content. Write about topics that are news related or anything exciting that is happening in your industry. You know your business better than anyone, so writing the content should come naturally and flow. The content needs to be separated with headlines, making it easier for the user to read and Google. Also look at blogging about useful tips and advice your customers to benefit from.


If you follow the above and be consistent with the blogging, your natural traffic will increase to your website which ultimately will lead to more calls or enquiries. You will see your business growth over time which is why SEO is key for any small business, especially during these uncertain times.
